Why You Need Houseplants in Your Space
Sure they look good for the ‘gram, but houseplants are so much more than a pretty face. Plants are pretty much the best friends you didn’t know you needed.
Here are Five Reasons Why You Need Houseplants in Your Life:
Bringing the Outdoors In
We all know how refreshing it is to take a walk in the park or woods. When we reconnect with nature we reduce our mental fatigue and stress. We feel more invigorated and relaxed.
Some studies have show that even touching foliage has a calming effect (which is probably why I always want to touch the plants in public spaces haha!)So if being in the green outdoors has such a positive effect on us why not bring it indoors? Most of us spend more time indoors these days. Houseplants are a great way to add more green to our spaces.
They Improve Productivity
Shh! Don’t tell your boss! A Texas A&M study noted “Work performed under the natural influence of ornamental plants in the home and in the workplace increases memory retention & concentration.”
I don’t know about you but I need all the help I can get keeping things straight. If plants can help my memory and concentration bring on the green!
Plants Help You Breathe Better
When we inhale we bring oxygen in and exhale releasing carbon dioxide. Plants do the opposite when they photosynthesize. This makes us the ultimate symbiotic Bffs!
“The air purification ability of plants depends on factors such as size of the plant, size of the indoor space, and amount of toxins in the air, but 6 to 8 medium to large plants throughout a large room should be enough to make a noticeable difference in the air quality,” says Gary L. Altman, associate director of the Horticulture Therapy program at Rutgers University. Which leads us to our next benefit.
Heading- Plants Help Clean the Air Boo!
NASA has spent quite some time researching the air quality in sealed environments (as they should!) What they found is “Both plant leaves and roots are utilized in removing trace levels of toxic vapors from inside tightly sealed buildings. Low levels of chemicals such as carbon monoxide, formaldehyde can be removed from indoor environments by plant leaves alone.” Get the full study here
